Despite countless WikiLeaks copycats popping up since the secret-spilling site first dumped its cache of State Department cables last year, the new generation of leaking sites has produced few WikiLeaks-sized scoops. So instead of waiting for insider whistleblowers, the hacker movement Anonymous hopes that a few outside intruders might start the leaks flowing.

Earlier this week members of the hacker collective, and specifically a sub-group known as the People’s Liberation Front, (PLF) launched two new leaking sites, (not to be confused with the similarly named and Both hope to receive documents through an anonymous submissions channel, analyze them, and then distribute them to the press to get “maximum exposure and political impact.”

But while LocalLeaks aims to use WikiLeaks’ model of insider sources to expose corruption on the local scale, HackerLeaks openly invites data thieves to upload documents through its submission system, so that they can be analyzed and publicized. “You download it, we’ll disclose it for you,” the site’s homepage reads, listing potential booty such as “databases, exploits, security flaws, documents, and email spools.”

On Tuesday, according to one of the hackers involved who goes by the name Commander X, the leaking site got its first submission: a list of the personal details of Orlando officials including addresses, home values, incomes and other data. That “leak,” which Commander X says was submitted anonymously to HackerLeaks but was posted, confusingly, on LocalLeaks, comes as Anonymous has been engaged in what it calls “Operation Orlando.” Since early Tuesday hackers have been launching attacks on Orlando-based targets including and the websites of the Orlando Chamber of Commerce and Universal Studios in retaliation for arrests of Orlando workers for the non-profit Food Not Bombs who lacked permits.

“These are the folks that wrote and are enforcing a very brutal law against very poor people,” Commander X, who says he is serving as the current “editor in chief” of the two sites, wrote to me over instant message. ”They themselves appear to be very very rich, so we thought we would point that out.”

I’m not going to take a stand on this, I’ll just keep an eye on it as it develops and develop it will.

Mr McKinnon, 44, who was born in Glasgow and now lives in London, is wanted in the US for hacking into Pentagon computers.

His legal team confirmed that the Home Secretary has decided to postpone a judicial review hearing into his extradition that was due to be held next week so that the issues surrounding the case can be considered.

Mr McKinnon was arrested in 2002 after American prosecutors accused him of hacking into military computer systems, the Department of Defence and Nasa, as well as sabotaging vital American military systems after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

They say his actions caused hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage but Mr McKinnon says his motivation for his unauthorised use of sensitive networks was to find information on UFOs held by the US government.

If found guilty, Mr McKinnon could face up to 70 years in jail in the US.

His lawyers appealed for him to be prosecuted in Britain on lesser charges, but the Crown Prosecution Service rejected their request. In July of last year he lost his latest appeal against extradition but his supporters have said the case has a long way to go.

Mr McKinnon’s mother Janis Sharp says that Home Secretary Theresa May has now decided to put a halt on the extradition and is reviewing the case.

She wrote to new Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who used to campaign on behalf of Gary, asking that the extradition be halted immediately.

Both parties had ahead of the general election condemned the extradition.

Mr McKinnon’s legal team said that they hope the decision may signal a more compassionate and caring Home Secretary and one that is willing to defend the rights of British citizens.

Finally someone with a little spine left, who can stand up against the US government and say no.

The UK has a perfect legal system and does not requires the US meddling around, if Gary is extradited he will be tried as a terrorist something he is clearly not.

He is a hacker with asperger syndrome that made some dumb dessication, that’s all.

A recent wave of cyber attacks that crippled thousands of computers and websites in the United States and South Korea could have originated from inside Britain, experts have warned.

According to security researchers in Vietnam, the source of last week’s string of attacks by the Mydoom virus – which overwhelmed systems belonging to the US Treasury and the office of the South Korean president Lee Myung-Bak – can be traced to the UK.

“We have analysed the malware pattern that we received” said Nguyen Minh Duc, a director of Vietnamese security company BKIS, in a post on the company’s blog. “We found a master server located in the UK.”

Investigators said they had discovered new details on how the strikes took place by investigating and tracing back the attacks.

According to BKIS, infected computers had tried to contact one of eight so-called command and control servers every three minutes. These machines then gave instructions to the hacked PC – generally ordering them to direct traffic straight at victim websites, in attempt to overload them and force them to crash.

But these eight servers were themselves being controlled by a single source, which evidence indicated was located somewhere in Britain.

“Having located the attacking source in UK, we believe that it is completely possible to find out the hacker,” wrote Nguyen. “This of course depends on the US and South Korean governments.”

The findings contradict some earlier reports that the surge in attacks may have been coordinated from North Korea, a theory largely driven by intelligence reports presented to the authorities in Seoul.

Despite the news, government officials in South Korea are still trying to ascertain whether the strikes actually originated in the UK – or whether Britain was simply being used to screen the true location of those behind the attacks.

“We don’t know that the attackers were actually based in Britain, or mainly hacked a British IP address and used it for delivery,” an official from the Korean Communications Commission told the Korea Times.

I knew something fishy was going on.

I hope they find out who the cracker (not hacker you dumb assholes) is, but that not bloody likely since it´s the US where talking about, whey´ll probably find it easier just to start a war then find the culprit.

Hackers do laundry. Hackers like movies. Hackers are people and could be your neighbors, your brother, your friends. Presenting a portrait of the hacking community, created by the community themselves, this film breaks down negative stereotypes by letting hackers show you that they are really no different from anyone else. Delving into areas such as the way hackers think, what is hacking, hackers in the media, and women in the security/hacking field, this film will have you questioning your ideas about what a ‘hacker’ really is.

Hacker are not bad people, they have been slandered in the news to look evil.

This video shows the real hackers.

News Scare Tactics

How the media uses scare tactics to portray potentially negative news

As we all know news has become entertainment. We have background music, anchors oohing and ahing into the camera, everyone in the studio loves everyone else and the more hyped the story the better it is.
How the media uses scare tactics to portray potentially negative news

When I was young my class went on a field trip. In order to get where we were going we had to pass a picket line. The news media reported we were part of the picket even though every one in the class, the teachers and parents, and the people involved in the picket said not true. The lie made better news. Since then I have always taken the news with a grain of salt.

Fear with the weather is a perfect example of media scare tactics. The news media will let everyone know a storm is coming. Then the predictions make it look like death and destruction are right around the corner. The winds will come and knock down the trees. The storm will begin to look like the tornado in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The storm itself is usually anti-climatic at best. When a really bad storm does happen it usually takes everyone including the news media be complete surprise.

Politics are another example. Politicians using the media to scare the living heck out of everyone. Listen to my opponent and the terrorists will move in next door and bomb your neighborhood. There is (to update an old expression) a terrorist hiding under every bed. Give up all freedom and liberty and you will be protected from all the bad men who want to harm you.

Food is another favorite. Which foods will cure cancer and which contain ingredients to increase your chances of getting the disease. Eat healthy and exercise or get sick and die.

Scaring people is a good way to get people’s attention, especially with a lot of competition. It is also a good way to influence people into a direction they might not want to go in. These days reporting the news isn’t good enough. There has to be a sitting on the edge of the seat breath taking air of excitement stimulating the viewer. Or so the media seems to believe.

Classic example on news scare tactics.

Okay I know that the bomb threat was a bit to much but the website is still not as bad as they make it out to be.

Lastly, our only really enemy is fear and we have to overcome that enemy.

or at least give him a fair trial in the United Kingdom.

British citizen Gary McKinnon, who is facing “fast track” extradition to the USA (after over five years since his initial arrest !).

Gary was indicted by a US court in November 2002, accused of “hacking” into over 90 US Military computer systems from the UK.

The unjust treatment of British citizens (and others) when facing the might of the US Military “justice” system, which practices detention without trial in Guantanamo Bay and elsewhere, and stands accused of making use of torture by allied regimes (“extraordinary rendition”) is an ongoing scandal. It cannot be excused even by a “war on terror”.

It seems only just that Gary should face any charges in a British court, and to serve any sentence, if he is found guilty, in a British prison.
