Religion, Cults and Fundametalists
I have thought about religion alot and if we as a species are going to survive the obstacles that lie ahead we need to come together and make the earth a better place but first we need to eradicate all forms of cults, sects and fundametalists.
We need to find some common ground and by learning about the other religions, we´ll find just that ground.
I suggest you watch:
John Sweeney investigates the Church of Scientology, endorsed by some major
Hollywood celebrities, but which continues to face the criticism that it is less
of a religion and more of a cult. Some former members claim the Church uses a
mind control technique to put opponents at a psychological disadvantage. During
the course of his investigation, Sweeney is shouted at, spied on, visited in his
hotel at midnight and chased around the streets of LA by strangers in hire cars.
- Fall From Grace
The first feature-length documentary to explore the hate-filled world of Rev. Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, KS. Since the mid-90s, this group has participated in nearly 25,000 anti-homosexual demonstrations around the world. With signs that say things like “God hates fags,” “You’re going to Hell,” “Thank God for 9/11,” “God hates your tears,” “Thank God for dead soldiers,” the small congregation of 75 members has garnered international attention, especially now that they have targeted military funerals as a venue for their picketing. ‘Fall From Grace’ features interviews with Rev. Phelps, other members of the church, many of its dissenters, and two members that left the church and their family behind.
This riveting Oscar-nominated documentary offers an unfiltered look at a revivalist subculture where devout Christian youngsters are being primed to deliver the fundamentalist community’s religious and political messages. Building an evangelical army of tomorrow, the Kids on Fire summer camp in Devil’s Lake, N.D., is dedicated to deepening the preteens’ spirituality and sowing the seeds of political activism as they’re exhorted to “take back America for Christ.”
- Religulous
The film is a 2008 American documentary film directed by Larry Charles and starring political comedian Bill Maher. According to Maher, the title of the film is a portmanteau derived from the words “religion” and “ridiculous,” implying the satirical nature of the documentary that is meant to mock the concept of religion and the problems it brings about.
